Dr. Elbyrne G. Gill, MD was a noted physician who founded The Gill Memorial Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Dr Gill established a Post Graduate Program in 1927, which was, at that time and for years after, the only refresher course held in this country for graduates specializing in ear, eye, nose, and throat. The program continued after his death in 1966. From this became the Elbryne G. Gill Eye and Ear Foundation that continues to be dedicated to the prevention of blindness and deafness.

As a Lion, Dr. Gill was District Governor in 1932-33, International Director in 1933-34 and again 1937-1939. He was elected President of Lions Clubs International 1943-1944.
